Safely Transporting People in Wheelchairs
Gain an improved understanding of the risks associated with vehicle transport for people who remain in their wheelchair, and how to manage these risks. This session will focus on considerations for safe transport including features of the wheelchair and vehicle considerations; and a practical component to experience securing a wheelchair in an accessible vehicle.

Louise Ganser, Practice Lead Assistive Technology
With 25 years of experience, Louise Ganser is an Occupational Therapist and Practice Lead who brings deep expertise and passion in environmental modification for all people. Her work centres on creating person centred, evidence-based environments that empower children and adults to participate fully in their daily lives—whether that involves redesigning living spaces for accessibility, prescribing adaptive equipment, or collaborating with builders, therapists, and families to develop practical, sustainable solutions.
Louise has a passion for supporting clinicians with assessment, provision and training in assistive technology and regularly provides training for allied health professionals, and lectures at Universities and Conferences.
Dr. Amelia Edwards, Practice Lead Childhood Practice and Services
Amelia has over 15 years of experience supporting people with communication disability across a range of settings. Amelia’s area of clinical expertise supports children and adults who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Amelia is passionate about ensuring that everyone, regardless of how they communicate, has a voice. Amelia’s expertise is industry recognized and she is proud to be the South Australian representative for Australia’s Group Supporting Communication Inclusion (AGOSCI).
Amelia has extensive experience in including the voices of people with lived and familial experience in research, services, and community. In 2015, Amelia completed a PhD, which explored how parents of children on the autism spectrum make decisions about interventions for their children.
Belinda Carpenter, Stream Leader Assistive Technology
Belinda is an Occupational Therapist with more than 20 years of experience, specialising in assistive technology (AT) throughout most of her career. Her work centres on providing high-level clinical support to teams of therapists, as well as delivering specialised AT and home modification services to clients of all ages.
Belinda is passionate about service improvement and knowledge sharing to improve client outcomes. She brings a wealth of leadership and industry experience to her role, having served as the Assistive Technology Practice Lead at Novita for six years, and previously as the Manager of Specialist Equipment Services with the Domiciliary Equipment Service in South Australia.
Belinda’s extensive clinical background also includes key positions within the former Independent Living Equipment Program in the South Australian government, as well as foundational experience with a regional health service in Victoria.
