What is a prosthesis?
A prosthesis is a custom-made artificial limb that replaces a missing body part. Each one is built around a socket shaped precisely to your residual limb, with a liner, suspension and components such as a knee, foot or hand chosen to match how you want to move.
People need a prosthesis for many reasons, including amputation after diabetes, vascular disease, trauma, cancer or infection, or a limb difference present from birth. Whether you’re getting your first prosthesis, replacing an old one or unhappy with how your current limb fits, we can help.

Backed by our own Test Lab
NovitaTech is home to a NATA-accredited assistive technology Test Lab, operating in Adelaide since 1989 and experienced in testing lower limb prostheses.
Our prosthetics and Test Lab teams have carried out structural testing on our own carbon fibre sockets, running them through 3 million loading cycles in each test condition with no failure. It’s one of the ways we check the quality of what we make.
What to expect
- Assessment. We get to know you, your residual limb and your goals.
- Prescription. Your prosthetist recommends the right design and components for you.
- Casting or scanning. We capture the exact shape of your residual limb.
- Test socket. You try a test socket so we can fine-tune the fit.
- Manufacture. Your prosthesis is made in our Croydon Park workshop.
- Fitting and training. We fit, align and teach you how to use and care for your prosthesis, working with your physiotherapist and family.
- Ongoing care. Reviews, adjustments, repairs, socket replacements and new liners for as long as you need them.

Depending on your circumstances, your prosthesis may be funded through:
- The NDIS, where it relates to your goals and is considered reasonable and necessary
- Injury and compensation schemes, such as workplace or motor vehicle accident schemes
- Private payment

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral?
No, you can contact us directly. Some funding bodies need a referral or prescription, and we’ll let you know if that applies to you. GPs, surgeons, physiotherapists and support coordinators can also refer to us.
How much does a prosthesis cost?
It depends on the type of prosthesis and components you need. After your assessment we’ll give you a quote, and help you work out what your funding can cover.
Can you help if my prosthesis was made somewhere else?
In many cases, yes. Book a review and we’ll assess the fit and condition of your current prosthesis.
Do you see children?
Yes. We work with children and families, and plan for adjustments and new prostheses as they grow.
