Support at Home Assistive Technology: How to Fund Equipment and Home Modifications
If you or a loved one receives support to live at home, you may be able to get funding for equipment and home modifications through Support at Home. This guide explains how the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) scheme works, what it can pay for and how NovitaTech can help you in Adelaide and across South Australia.
What is Support at Home?
Support at Home is the Australian Government’s in-home aged care program. It started on 1 November 2025, replacing Home Care Packages and Short-Term Restorative Care. It helps older people stay safe and independent at home with services such as nursing, personal care, cleaning and allied health.
Alongside your ongoing services, Support at Home includes separate funding for assistive technology and home modifications through the AT-HM scheme.
What is the AT-HM scheme?
The AT-HM scheme funds equipment and changes to your home that help you move around safely, look after yourself and stay independent. Because it’s separate from your ongoing budget, you don’t have to choose between buying equipment and paying for services like cleaning or personal care.
What assistive technology can it fund?
- Walkers and rollators, walking sticks and wheelchairs
- Shower chairs, commodes and toileting aids
- Lift chairs, adjustable beds and pressure care mattresses
- Falls alerts and sensors
- Daily living and mealtime aids
What home modifications can it fund?
- Grab rails and handrails
- Ramps and step modifications
- Bathroom and toilet modifications, such as step-free showers
- Doorway widening and slip-resistant flooring
Only items on the government’s approved AT-HM list can be funded, and the item needs to meet a need identified in your aged care assessment.
How much funding is available?
AT-HM funding is organised into tiers based on the cost and complexity of what you need:

How to access AT-HM funding: step by step
- Get an aged care assessment. Contact My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or visit the My Aged Care website to arrange an assessment.
- Choose a Support at Home provider. Your provider manages your services and funding.
- Get advice or a prescription. For medium and high-tier items, a health professional such as an occupational therapist will recommend what you need.
- Try and choose your equipment. This is where NovitaTech comes in. You can see and trial equipment in our showroom or at home.
- Get a quote. We prepare a quote for your provider to approve.
- Delivery, installation and training. We deliver, install and show you how to use everything safely.
