Types of wheelchair and pressure care cushions
- Foam cushions suit people with low risk of skin breakdown who want comfort and stability, such as the Stealth Simplicity, Comfort Curve, Jay Low Zone Eco and the Forté Sonnet 2-Core.
- Foam with gel or fluid adds skin protection and positioning, such as the Jay Low Zone Gel Switch, Jay Union, Jay Fusion and Jay J2 Deep Contour.
- Air cell cushions spread pressure for people at high risk of pressure injuries. See the ROHO Quadtro Select and Single Compartment cushions.
- Vicair cushions use small air-filled cells for skin protection and stability, such as the Vicair Adjuster O2, Active O2 and Vector O2.
- Air-foam cushions from Varilite combine air and foam, such as the Reflex, Evolution and Meridian.
- Bariatric cushions: the Sonnet Bariatric Cushion.
- Sheepskin and overlays for chairs and beds, such as Medical Sheepskin Overlays (AS4480.1, machine washable) and the Day Chair Overlay.

How to choose a wheelchair cushion
- Skin risk: people at higher risk of pressure injuries usually need air, fluid or air-foam cushions rather than plain foam.
- Posture and stability: contoured cushions help keep the pelvis and thighs in position.
- Size: match the cushion to the wheelchair seat width and depth.
- Daily care: air cushions need regular pressure checks; foam needs less upkeep.
